Why oh why oh why oh why do we keep on running after earthly things?!?!!?

Hebrews 13:5 says:
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

The writer of Psalm 73 picks this thought up in verses 25-26

25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

Let these words be ours today, and be shown in the way we treat God in comparison with other things.

*Sigh*... More on money and materialism later.. I've got to go correct my thinking.

hey... its me again.
i dont have a blog yet but its looking like a good idea. these thoughts are provoking and we should definately be thinking more bout such things. so see me as ur regular comment person :-)

i dont think we think bout material things as much as we should. what i mean is that we hear the odd sermon on it but when it comes to putting it into practice, we put some money in the bag and thats it. as one person puts it, " we tend to think about the 10% that we put in the bag while forgetting about the other 90% we are left with". the reality is that God owns all 100% of what we own and what we earn or will earn one day. we have to be real wise stewards with our money. its a gift from God to be used for his glory, not for our habits.

now that doesnt mean that we cant by the occasional tv set or the nice dinner. but like the Hebrews verse says, we must be content with what God has given us. so when we start to earn that salary one day, we should be thinking of how we can glorify God with all our money or possesions, not just that little that we think is His.

just a thought.

Yay, I LOVE Regular Comment People!!! ;)

I completely agree that we often don't put money in its rightful place as underneath God, not above God, in our lives!!

I don't want to write too much here, 'cause I'm still thinking of blogging about money and materialism, but I think it's not only people who have salaries that need to think of using money in a way that is glorifying to God, but ANYbody who's getting money - even teenagers or kids who are 'only' getting pocket money. It's a good idea to start off treating the little you have in a godly way, so that one day if you're called to steward large amounts, you're already trained for that!

What I've also been encouraged by in the above verses is that our portion is God!! [I love that word 'portion'.. you can sorta see this image of a whole lot of people standing in a cafeteria waiting to get their meals, and everyone's getting this dull, off-gray lumpy looking meat that was probably roadkill covered in watery gravy, when suddenly, some undeserving, wretched wreck gets this massive, golden-brown steak, with potato salad and yumminess!] - what we get is the King of the Universe. How MINDBLOWING is that!!

(Oh, whoops, I see I didn't finish off my thought.)

I meant to carry on by saying, how on earth can we think we're lacking in ANYTHING when the God of the Universe has promised to be with us for ever??!!

And yet we are.

We are fools!
